Fudoshin Karate – Health and Safety Policy

1. Policy Statement

Fudoshin Karate is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for all students, instructors, volunteers, and visitors. We recognise our duty of care and aim to prevent injury, promote wellbeing, and respond appropriately to any incidents.

 

2. Responsibilities

Club Instructors and Staff:

  • Conduct regular risk assessments of training venues and equipment.
  • Maintain appropriate first aid cover during all sessions.
  • Ensure students warm up, train, and cool down safely.
  • Keep emergency contact details up to date and accessible.
  • Maintain appropriate supervision ratios for children and beginners.
  • Hold relevant qualifications, including Enhanced DBS checks.

 

Students and Parents:

  • Inform instructors of any medical conditions or injuries.
  • Follow instructions and report unsafe behaviour or hazards.
  • Wear appropriate uniform and equipment.
  • Bring personal water and maintain good hygiene.

 

3. First Aid and Incident Reporting

  • A qualified First Aider will be present during all classes.
  • All injuries or near misses are recorded in the club’s incident log.
  • Parents/guardians will be informed of any injury involving a child.
  • Emergency procedures are reviewed regularly and updated as needed.

 

4. Venue and Equipment Safety

  • Training areas are inspected before each session.
  • Mats, training aids, and equipment are checked and maintained.
  • Emergency exits are kept clear, and fire procedures are clearly communicated.

 

5. COVID-19 and Infectious Disease Control

  • The club follows current government and Sport England guidelines.
  • Students showing symptoms of illness should not attend training.
  • Hand hygiene and regular cleaning of shared equipment are encouraged.

 

6. Review and Oversight

This policy is reviewed annually by the club leadership team, including John McLauchlan and Allison Calthorpe, to ensure compliance with current regulations and best practice.
