1. Statement of Intent
Fudoshin Karate is committed to providing a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all members. Bullying of any kind will not be tolerated. We promote values of respect, courtesy, and discipline in line with the ethos of traditional karate.
2. What is Bullying?
Bullying is deliberate, repeated behaviour intended to hurt, intimidate, or upset another individual. It can be:
- Physical – hitting, pushing, or physical intimidation
- Verbal – name-calling, threats, insults, or teasing
- Emotional – excluding others, spreading rumours
- Cyberbullying – online harassment via social media or messaging apps
3. Who is Covered by This Policy?
This policy applies to all students, instructors, assistants, parents, and visitors at Fudoshin Karate. It includes all training sessions, club events, and online interactions involving club members.
4. Our Approach to Preventing Bullying
- All members are expected to uphold the club’s code of conduct and treat others with respect.
- Instructors are trained to observe and respond to signs of bullying.
- Students are encouraged to speak to an instructor or the safeguarding officer if they witness or experience bullying.
- We foster an environment where positive behaviour, teamwork, and support are part of every class.
5. Reporting Bullying
Any instances of bullying should be reported to:
- Allison Calthorpe, Safeguarding Officer
- John McLauchlan, Chief Instructor
Reports will be taken seriously, handled sensitively, and investigated promptly. Confidentiality will be respected wherever possible.
6. Responding to Incidents
- The incident will be reviewed with those involved.
- Appropriate actions may include verbal warnings, parent/guardian involvement, or, in serious cases, suspension or removal from the club.
- Support will be offered to both the victim and the person responsible to ensure understanding and behaviour change.
7. Monitoring and Review
This policy will be reviewed annually and updated in line with safeguarding best practice and club development. It forms part of the club’s wider safeguarding commitment.
